The Game

Swish

The orange sphere falls from the sky, bouncing against the ground only once before being grabbed in mid air. The player jumps from her spot, aiming towards the basket for another shot.

Ka-thunk

The ball misses completely, veering far to the left of the court as she chases after it. She pants, pushing herself to the limit in order to achieve her goal. She snatches the ball, dribbling it ever so carefully against imaginary foes as she goes towards her sweet spot. She jumps again, shooting with the utmost accuracy towards the basket.

Ka-thunk

The ball misses again, only this time by a few inches of the basket. It comes back to her, allowing her to give another shot in quick succession from the one before.

Swish

It falls through the net, bouncing a few times on the ground before rolling towards the grass. She walks towards it, bending down to pick it up from where it lay. She stared up at the basket before breaking out into a jog, dribbling the ball from the back of the court to the front, practicing her control over it.

Ba-dunk ba-dunk ba-dunk

Her heart seems in rhythm to the beat of the ball as she takes aim again, deciding that this would be her final shot. She has made her decisions, already knowing what the outcome will be if the ball makes it or not. She prays that it makes it though, because she really doesn't want to fulfill the promise she made herself if it doesn't. She doesn't like the sting of failure, of never being good enough no matter what. She's tired of always seeing where things can be improved; she just wants to look and see beautiful perfection one day. So she says a silent prayer before jumping and shooting the ball.
