On a Quest

I am searching for truth.

Well, what a rather bold statement
Do you even know what truth is?
Truth is like a concrete pavement
Providing solid ground for our kids

Well yes, but solid ground for what?
Pavement is used for fun and games
Providing ground for them to escape this rut
And to make astounding claims

A child's claims are just mere fantasy,
Comprised of dragons and magical folk
If they hear you speak such blasphemy,
They'll tie you to that old oak

Why so? I only offer truth
And sometimes, the truth does hurt
But that sucks life from their youth;
They'll find it rude and rather curt

I'm not rude; it's just stone cold fact!
And you're just a type to enable!
Truth isn't art, it isn't abstract!
Stop living within these fables!

My good kind sir, I must not have been clear
I am indeed searching for truth
I'm not looking for fact though, but that which is dear
To the never ending fountain of youth.

My search is for what one believes in,
What one perceives to be fact
It doesn't need to be real, or arguments win
I search for what makes people act

What makes an individual?
Can you answer me that?
We're anything but typical;
As different as a dog and a cat.

I…I cannot answer you Madame
For I do not know the answer.
In fact, on this quest I too am,
Searching for that answer.
